SPLASHING FUN IN THE SUN WITH SPLASH & ADVENTURE ZONE AT GOLDEN SANDS RESORT
Capturing fun at its core with your family is easy when one visits the wide and all ^encompassing facilities of Golden Sands Resort’s Splash and Adventure Zone. The resort, afresh from its two newly added attractions is positioning itself to be a more family oriented resort to cater for the global family market.
Measuring 200 square metres and located between two big pools is the Splash Zone, a water attraction which combines the sensation of water movements and interactive play elements in a safe “zero-depth water play area.”
Children will have an exhilarating time with thrills and spills galore when they’re introduced to the zone’s whimsical sculptures, water slides, massive water tipping bucket and water sprays which are accompanied by colourfully drawn iridescent animals.
Designed by Strike Theming & Leisure Consultants, a water park development and theming company, the Splash Zone’s outdoor area was constructed with fun and safety in mind.
General Manager of Strike Theming, Roy Brattinga expressed pride in being chosen for the project.
“We are very lucky to be chosen for the project and that the owners believed in us to undertake this project to think out of the box. We are very happy that we could create something that kids would love.”
Brattinga elaborated that the team drew heavily from nature and the Shangri-La mascots in order to create an environment that blended in with natural elements in the resort.
Its second attraction, the Adventure Zone, which cost a whopping RM3.2 million to build, is the largest indoor playground for children in Penang. The 10,300 square foot facility has a comprehensive indoor playground featuring a 24- foot vertical drop slide called the “Demon Drop”.
In addition to the playground area, a kids club is located on the upper floor of the Adventure Zone which offers children individual mini lockers, soft toys, board games, Nintendo Wii, a 55-inch TV for movies, desktop computers, bean bags and a playhouse corner.
Other daily activities to keep children occupied all day include craft making, sandcastle building, mask making, traditional Malaysian games, interactive play and electronic games.
General Manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort, Ms Elaine Yue said that the attractions are part of the resort’s efforts to cater to all markets in particular the burgeoning family market.
“It’s our desire to be able to cater for all markets. We’ve positioned Golden Sands to be a family resort and family means kids, holiday and fun. So we want to enhance the total experience of the family by providing fun activities and games,” she said
Yue added that these also included educational activities for children aged 5-12 years that focused on conservation efforts, creativity and artwork.
The resort also caters a lounge for teenagers aged 12 called the Fun Interactive and Play (F1P) lounge at its sister resort Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.
The Splash Zone launch was also attended by the orphans of the Air Itam Family Home and Penang Shan Children’s Home who enjoyed a scrumptious lunch and an opportunity to enjoy the attraction first hand.
Golden Sands Resort Penang will also be offering a value-added family fun package for the family with a starting rate of RM 550++ which includes breakfast for two adults and two children below 12 years old. The two children may enjoy unlimited complimentary access to Adventure Zone and complimentary lunch and dinner at the Cool Zone Kids Club.
